The Schilling Estate Sale
June 26, 27 and 28
For the Schillings, volunteering was a calling. They threw themselves into so many of Taos’s arts and nonprofit organizations that they became, for all practical purposes, the town’s unofficial docents. Along the way they assembled a remarkable collection of art, books, and jewelry drawn from local sources — including pieces tied to the Millicent Rogers Museum. As friends of artist Amado Peña, they acquired a number of his signed prints alongside several original paintings, and their long admiration of musicians Willy Nelson and Michael Martin Murphey yielded a trove of concert and record posters.
Mrs. Schilling was a devoted craftsperson, leaving behind a wealth of supplies — a small kiln and an impressive array of sewing equipment among them. Mr. Schilling, a former mechanic at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, had a passion for antique tools and woodworking machinery: a drill press, band saw, and planer, plus a full complement of corded and cordless hand tools.
Then there’s everything a life well lived leaves behind — from a lovely set of Franciscan Ware and hand-painted Polish serving ware to every kitchen item you could want. Round it out with a superior collection of Madame Alexander dolls, Barbies new in the box, beautiful Southwestern jewelry, and a striking selection of Japanese- and Chinese-inspired art.
This is a sale with something for everyone — and one you truly won’t want to miss.
Address will be posted Thursday, June 25.
