Antique Victorian Helmet Copper Coal Scuttle or Hod
$280.00
Description
This object is an antique brass coal scuttle, also known as a coal bucket or hod. These were essential household items in the 18th and 19th centuries, used to carry and store a small supply of coal near an indoor fireplace or stove. Originally designed for utility, they allowed for easy pouring of coal onto a fire due to their slanted open tops. By the mid-19th century, many were used to hold logs as well. The distinctive “helmet” design seen in your image became especially popular during the Victorian era (mid-to-late 1800s), adding a decorative touch to a functional item. Please see pictures for condition details as the photos are considered a part of the description.
