Living in Taos, NM and Todo Santos, Mexico, Stewart was a specialist in Hopi and Pueblo ceremonial subject matter, especially Kachinas, Pueblo clowns, fancy dancers, and pueblo architecture. His work is rendered in a flattened, abstract style, in this case with masked Kachina figures in front of a pueblo backdrop with ladders and adobe with ceremonial participants carrying green boughs, in his characteristic saturated orange/red palette.
