Beautifully rendered terra cotta figure with distinct female characteristics. Used as religious talisman and fertility. Tan terra cotta with remnants of pigment on front – well worn reverse. 3.75″ height. Michoaca, Western Mexico. Little is known of the Chupícuaro. They migrated from San Luis Potosi between 800 and 500BC settling north of modern Mexico City. The sites, known only since 1926 include over a dozen pyramids, tombs, altars and other structures, the vast majority of which are, to date, unexplored.
