Early Ernesto “Ernie” Salazar Signed 1976 Hand-Carved Cedar Bulto Santo Taos NM

$360.00

Description

A signed and dated 1976 hand-carved cedar bulto by Ernesto “Ernie” Salazar of Taos, New Mexico — an early and rare example from one of the Salazar family’s most accomplished second-generation santeros. Dated just a few years after Ernesto learned to carve directly from his father, legendary santero Leo G. Salazar, this piece reflects the raw, direct carving energy of his formative period. The bearded, hooded figure holds a staff or farming implement diagonally across the body. A rosary is carved in relief on the robe using an asterisk/star-punch pattern. Natural, unfinished cedar throughout with visible tool marks adding to the handmade authenticity. 11.75″x4.25″x3.5″ 1.5 lbs Please see pictures for condition details as the photos are considered part of the description.
