Leo Salazar – Christ The Redeemer Bulto

Salazar’s work is known for its abstract, elongated forms carved from native New Mexican red cedar or juniper. He avoided paint, preferring to let the natural striations and burls of the wood dictate the final form of his bultos. He primarily carved religious subjects, famously stating, “It is my faith”.
