Description

The chest features a flip-top lid that reveals felt-lined trays for flatware, along with several drawers and sometimes a double-door cupboard at the base. The panels are deeply hand-carved with traditional Chinese motifs, such as palace garden scenes, sailing junks, and floral borders. The exterior is rosewood or hardwood with a rich dark patina, the interior is lined with camphor wood, which naturally repels moths and insects.  It features original patinated brass hardware, including an engraved lock plate on the top lid. Manufactured in Hong Kong during the mid-20th century marked from the notable workshop of George Zee & Co. being highly regarded for their kiln-dried craftsmanship.
