Description
Michael Salazar was a son of legendary santero Leo G. Salazar. He died at just 21 years old in August 1986, leaving behind roughly five years of work carved as a teenager. This piece embodies his signature bark-retention technique at its most dramatic: the lower body remains in the original silver-gray weathered outer bark of the cedar log — raw, ancient, elemental — while above, a face of remarkable refinement emerges. Deeply carved curly hair, full beard, hooded cowl. St. Francis holds a small bird in cupped hands. 14.25″x4″x3.25 2.5 lbs Please see photos for condition details as the pictures are considered part of the description.
